IBM said Tuesday that it reached a deal to buy CSL International, which provides virtualization management technology, boosting the capabilities of a key mainframe system.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

IBM said the acquisition improves the consolidation and cloud capabilities of its zEnterprise mainframe server system by making it simpler to manage. The zEnterprise system allows clients to host the workloads of thousands of commodity servers on a single system, boosting simplicity and security, while reducing costs.

The combination of IBM and the privately held Israeli company will allow clients to manage all aspects of their systems including memory, storage, and network resources, IBM said.

The deal is expected to close in the third quarter.

Shares of International Business Machines Corp. fell $3.48 to $191.50 in afternoon trading.
