Microsoft releases final version of Office 2010 SP2

Microsoft launched a beta version of Office 2010's second service pack in April, and today the company decided to release the final version of its last planned service pack for its older productivity software suite. The Microsoft Downloads page also has a number of other new Office related SP2 files available.

Both the 32-bit and 64-bit service packs for Office 2010 contain all of the previous updates made for the software, up to May 2013, along with some previously unreleased fixes. Microsoft says these new bug fixes offer "improvements in stability, performance, and security" for Office 2010. Microsoft has also released the final SP2 version for SharePoint 2010.? A full list of what's included in the SP2 downloads for Office and SharePoint 2010 can be downloaded via an Excel document.

Microsoft quietly stopped selling Office 2010 soon after the launch of Office 2013 in January. However, mainstream support for Office 2010 will continue until November 2015, and its extended support is not scheduled to stop until November 2020.

In addition to the Office 2010 service pack, Microsoft has released SP2 updates this week for Office Web Apps, Visio Viewer 2010, SharePoint Designer 2010, and PowerPoint Viewer, among other Office-related software.
