If you?ve finally decided that you want to work for yourself with your own home based business but are struggling to come up with a home based business idea that is right for you, the following activity will help.
This activity focuses on: Looking Within Yourself: realizing and determining your knowledge, skills, abilities, interests and inclinations.
Find a quite place where you?ll be able to concentrate without distractions. You?re going to be doing some thinking about yourself and tapping into your creative side.
4 Steps to finding home based business ideas right for you:
Step 1. Make a list of at least 10 things you are good at (yes, write them down). Look within yourself. Be totally and completely honest with yourself here. Everyone is good at something! Many hobbies, interests and skills have been the foundation for new businesses.
Make sure that you ask people who know you what they think you?re good at. You might be naturally good at giving advice or helping others to solve their problems. Maybe you have a knack for being able to repair and fix things. Getting the input of others might very well surprise you.
Include past and present work related skills and responsibilities. Also consider any school or community fundraising and/or community positions that you?ve volunteered for.
Step 2. Make a list of at least 10 things you like to do. Again, look within yourself. And, again talk to people that know you or have known you for a long time and ask them to give you their perspective input. Ask them what they?ve seen you doing when you are the most content.
Maybe you like organize things and tackle new projects. Perhaps you like to read novels or really enjoy helping your kids with their homework. Maybe you love to spend time gardening or working in your yard.
Step 3. Make a list of at least 10 things you know how to do well, whether you like to do them or not. Be as specific as you can. You are going to include your knowledge, skills and abilities. Maybe you work in a doctor?s office and are good at being able to multitask.
Maybe you?ve had a job where you?ve had to spend a lot of time at the library or on the internet researching. Perhaps you?ve worked as a transcriptionist in the past, even though you didn?t really enjoy it, etc?
Step 4. Review your lists and be creative. Place your lists side by side. Review them carefully and start connecting your listed items together in order to get business ideas.
Look at and refer to these lists often as they will help jar your creative thinking. What?s more, you?ll find and realize your dream of a home based business has many more possibilities that you ever thought!
