Farm to Market Report: Weekend of April 20
April is Lawn and Garden Month, so in the spirit of being outdoors and getting those hands in the dirt, it?d be a great idea to get some flowers and plants to spruce up your yard for summer. Where to find the best and most colorful buds? Look no further than the nearest farmers market. The majority of the markets on this list will be featuring vendors that will have plants on hand. If you?ve never planted anything without killing it (much like myself), don?t forget to ask the vendor for a bit of advice while you?re there.
Collin County Farmers Market: Get excited, because there?s a brand new market in town! The Collin County market at Fairview Farms will celebrate its grand opening this Saturday starting at 8:00 a.m. The kids will be sure to have a blast since the event will be complete with a bounce house, pony rides, and a bungee jump. You might see some familiar vendors from other markets, such as Village Baking Company and AP Apiaries. A couple of new faces may include Peace and Love Farms, and Purple Ranch Lavender Farm, which specializes in a variety of lavenders products such as soaps, bath salts, and candles.

Cowtown Farmers Market: Be one of the first 100 people to stop by the Chipotle booth at Cowtown this Saturday to receive $10 tokens! The tokens can be used to buy produce and other items from the market. If you need ideas on what to cook that week, Chipotle will also be handing out recipes to give you some inspiration.

Saturday, 8:00 a.m. ? 12:00 p.m.
Dallas Farmers Market: David McMillan of the Meddlesome Moth will be leading this week?s cooking session. The theme is ?Peas!? which makes me think that attendees will be cooking something that involves peas. McMillan has presided over the menus of several Dallas restaurants, including The Screen Door and The Commissary. Don?t miss out on the opportunity to learn from a chef with experience all over the country.

Daily, 8:00 a.m. ? 6:00 p.m.
Four Seasons Market: Gretchen Singh of Pottery by Gretchen will be at Four Seasons this weekend with some of her great handmade items. Look for her planter pottery to house those new flowers for your garden, as well as soup bowls, ring holders, and a variety of dishes. Food items that will be available include homemade salsa, artisan breads, and plenty of fruits and vegetables. Don?t forget to visit one of the newer vendors, Memphis Catfish, if you?re in the mood for seafood. Did you know that they have a restaurant in Frisco? Check it out if you?re in the area!

Saturday, 10:00 a.m. ? 3:00 p.m.
Grand Prairie Farmers Market: The market is partnering up with Prairie Paws Animal Shelter this Saturday for ?Adopt a Pet Day.? How could you pass up the chance to meet and play with a couple of dogs and kittens? As a Grand Prairie native and former volunteer at this shelter, I hope everyone that?s considering adopting a pet will be able to attend this event. Cute animals aren?t the only thing to look forward to on Saturday; yoga classes will be returning to the market, so grab your mat and attend a session at 9:30 or 11:00 a.m. Also, be sure to check out a wide variety of plants like Senna leaves and violets.
120 W. Main St.
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. ? 1:00 p.m.
White Rock Local Market: This week?s market at Lakeside is a food and artisan market only. If you plan to be at the market when it opens bright and early at 8:00 a.m., stop by Noble Coyote Coffee Roasters for a pick-me-up, since they will be selling coffee by the cup in addition to packages. Need something to go along with the caffeine? Village Baking Company will have freshly made breakfast pastries. Three food trucks will be on-site: Yellow Belly (Matthew Shelley raved about this truck back in February), Little Greek Food Truck, and Empanada Armada. Don?t forget that this Saturday is the last opportunity to sign up for the Chili Cook-Off on April 27! All proceeds will benefit WRLM programs such as Love Your Farmer volunteer days and Sprouting Healthy Kids, as well as the White Rock Local Garden. Have fun with some friendly competition, and help the community at the same time.
