ROME, N.Y. -- A Rome man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his truck and running from police on State Route 46.

Deputies say Kirk Carter, 45, drove his truck into several trees and a utility pole around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

Investigators say Carter got out of the truck and ran from the scene. Eventually, he was taken into custody.

Carter was later taken to Saint Elizabeth's hospital to be treated for head and leg injuries.
