According to the complaint, TPL is the exclusive licensee of the asserted patents, all of which are?generally directed to flash memory readers.? The ?623 patent discloses a memory card apparatus having more than one interface to read at least two different types of memory cards, allowing faster data transfer between flash cards.? The ?549 patent is directed to a system with a controller chip that interfaces with a flash memory card and can conduct bad block mapping to reduce errors.? The ?443 patent discloses a multi-media memory adapter capable of receiving multiple types of flash memory cards.? The ?638 patent is directed to a multi-flash card reader that uses a converter chip to read data from different kinds of flash cards.? The ?424 patent and the ?847 patent are both directed to an apparatus with a port having multiple sets of contact pins adapted to interface with different types of flash memory cards.

The complaint describes the infringing activities of each of the Proposed Respondents separately and specifically identifies a number of allegedly infringing products associated with each of the various Proposed Respondents, including, among other items, lap tops, card readers, and printers.

With regard to related litigation, the complaint states that TPL is concurrently filing civil actions in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas accusing the same parties of infringing the asserted patents.? ASUSTek Computer Inc. filed a declaratory judgment of noninfringement against TPL and other parties in February, 2008 based on the ?623 patent and the ?638 patent, among other patents.? Soon after, TPL filed two suits against ASUSTek Computer Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, one alleging infringement of the ?443 and ?549 patents, and one alleging infringement of the ?623 patent, among others.? These cases have all been dismissed based on settlement.? TPL filed a complaint for violation of Section 337 against 18 respondents in relation to the ?623, ?443, ?549, and ?424 patents (Investigation No. 337-TA-807, see our August 26, 2011 post for more details).? This case is still pending at the ITC with 5 respondents remaining.? TPL also filed a complaint against the same 18 defendants in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas for infringement of the? ?623, ?443, ?549, and ?424 patents, and this case has been stayed pending resolution of the 337-TA-807 investigation.

Danger of grill brushes identified

ScienceDaily (Mar. 28, 2012) ? Rhode Island Hospital physicians identified six cases of accidental ingestion of wire grill brush bristles that required endoscopic or surgical removal. The paper calls attention to the need for the public and physicians to be aware of this potential danger. It is published in the American Journal of Roentgenology and is now available online in advance of print.

David Grand, M.D., a radiologist in the diagnostic imaging department at Rhode Island Hospital, is the lead author of the paper. Grand explains that six patients were identified within an 18-month period who presented to the emergency department within 24 hours of ingesting grilled meat. Their symptoms were odynophagia (painful swallowing in the mouth or esophagus) or abdominal pain.

In all cases, a careful history revealed the patients had consumed meat cooked on a grill that was cleaned with a wire brush immediately prior to cooking. Of the patients, three presented with odynophagia as a primary symptom. Two underwent radiography of the neck, which revealed a metallic foreign body [the bristles], while one patient had a computed tomography (CT) scan that identified and localized the bristles within the neck. In all three patients the wires were identified and removed.

The remaining three patients presented with abdominal pain and underwent CT scans. In two patients, the wire perforated the small intestine and in the third, the wire perforated through the stomach and into the liver, and was surrounded by a large hepatic abscess. Surgery was performed in all three patients.

Grand says, "Although foreign body ingestion is not a rare complaint in an emergency department, it is striking that in only 18 months we identified six separate episodes of wire bristle ingestion after eating grilled meat. The public should be aware of this potential danger."

Grand adds, "It is also important for physicians to be aware of this danger and pay close attention to clinical history. In patients presenting with odynophagia, plain radiography may identify the wire bristle; however, CT is helpful for anatomic localization. For patients presenting with abdominal pain, CT is recommended and oral contrast should not be used as it can obscure the foreign body, in this case, wire bristles."

LONDON (AP) ? Britain has planned for a dizzying array of security nightmares surrounding the Olympics, including a coordinated attack like the London transit bombings, a dirty bomb or a cyberattack.

In the wake of France's deadly shootings, one scenario weighing heavily on the minds of security officials is the self-starter operating with little or no help from others.

And, they admit, there are limits to what security personnel can do.

"You cannot exclude something similar," said Denis Oswald, head of the International Olympic Committee's coordination commission for the London Games.

"Every Olympic venue will be specially protected, but of course, when you are in the street, people waiting for the bus waiting to go to an Olympic venue could be a target."

Mohamed Merah ? a 23-year-old Muslim extremist who says he trained in Afghanistan ? claimed responsibility for killing paratroopers, Jewish children and a rabbi in a weeklong shooting rampage in the French city of Toulouse. Police shot him dead last week after a 32-hour standoff.

French politicians have painted him as a "lone wolf" killer. But police are looking for possible accomplices, and suspicions grew that he had help when it turned out an apparent video of the attacks sent to the Al-Jazeera news network was not sent by Merah.

French officials say Merah moved in extremist Muslim circles in France and had been to Afghanistan twice. He told police he had trained in the Pakistani militant stronghold of Waziristan. He also had a long criminal record and a brother who had been suspected in a 2007 network that sent militant fighters to Iraq.

But French officials say there wasn't enough evidence of a threat to put Mohamed Merah under regular surveillance. Olympic security officials face a similar problem with some Islamic radicals in Britain ahead of the games.

"The reality is that there are hosts of people like this and most of them will never do anything," said a British government official who spoke on condition of anonymity to the AP because of the sensitivity of his work. "You can't follow everyone around."

That doesn't mean Britain isn't one of the most high-security nations in the Western world.

Since British suicide bombers killed 52 people during rush-hour attacks on July 7, 2005, MI5 and police counterterrorism units have vastly boosted their intelligence network. The country's surveillance agency, known as GCHQ, has the capability to listen in on people's telephone conversations and monitor their online communications. Surveillance units have also been attached to troops serving in places such as Afghanistan, specifically to gather intelligence that may lead back to Britain.

There are also special teams to look at suspect financial transactions ? an aspect of anti-terror strategy that gained more attention following last year's terror attacks in Norway.

Rightist extremist Anders Behring Breivik's set off a 2,100-pound (950-kilogram) fertilizer bomb in the heart of Oslo that killed eight people before going on a shooting rampage at youth camp that left 69 dead. Breivik's name came up on a list of people who had transferred money to Polish chemical firm under scrutiny in an international anti-terror initiative ? but Norwegian authorities didn't investigate further because his order was so small.

"The profile of these loners is different to what we saw with the four suicide bombers in 2005," said Noman Benotman, a former jihadist with links to al-Qaida who still maintains contacts within the jihadist community. "Many of them have some training, a strong conviction and they manage to stay off the radar for the most part."

Although the 8,000-mile torch relay starts in May ? more than two months ahead of the games ? security and law enforcement officials are bracing for a number of potential threats as the torch snakes though Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and parts of the U.K.

Inside Britain's domestic spy agency of MI5, a clock counts down the minutes before the torch arrives in England.

"To terrorists, the Olympics present a golden opportunity because they know they will get the world's attention," said Benotman, who now works as an analyst for the London-based Quilliam Foundation. "It doesn't really matter whether they kill seven or 70."

Although there is no intelligence to suggest a credible and specific threat to the games, officials have spent years taking precautions for the Olympics since London won the bid the day before the 2005 attacks.

Britain is already known as a leader in 'Big Brother' surveillance ? there are nearly 30 CCTV cameras near George Orwell's house alone in North London. The author of "1984" warned more than six decades ago of a time when it would be nearly impossible to escape from the watchful eyes of the state.

For the games, more cameras will be added to Britain's 4.3 million, and some will be used in conjunction with advanced facial recognition software and databases that can match vehicle registration numbers to names.

Olympic venues have also been designed with security threats in mind ? special shatterproof glass has been installed, structures have been built with advice from explosives experts and pathways have been laden with curves and gaps deliberately meant to slow down a potential attacker.

"If you look at the Internet, there are web sites calling exactly for these types of lone-wolf attacks," said Rob Wainwright, head of The Hague-based Europol, which will be sharing databases with law enforcement officials during the Olympics.

Ever since 'Bird and Bones' closed their doors and Catfish Alley changed locations, nobody came around to fill the void until very recently when 'Kathy's Southern Cooking,' a longtime local favorite took the Bird and Bones spot, and newcomer 'Big Paul's BBQ,' took the spot of 'Cafe Verdi,' a longtime personal favorite. Cafe Verdi were the neighborhood EMS (Emergency Munchie Suppliers,) and have brought me back to life on many occasion. I will miss them. However, as much as I am sad to see Cafe Verdi go, I'm equally excited abouit the arrival of Big Paul's BBQ.

I checked them out tonight. They are brand new, just ten days in business. Big Paul is a real dude too, and big. He's a real friendly guy with hospitality written all over him. He Came right out and said hello to me and introduced himself to everyone else who came in. Cynthia the waitress was as friendly as she could be too, and greeeted me with a huge smile as I walked in at 30 minutes before closing time. In fact, i think the last table to come in arrived at 9:55 and they got the same treatment. I'm certain Cynthia and Paul would have graciously posed for photos, but I didn't have the heart to ask them. They were getting ready to close up and were pretty busy.

Paul was keeping busy being the host and talking to a table near mine. I heard him say that he is closing for a few weeks to completely redesign the place to his standards, and from what he was saying, and the food I ate, I think I've stumbled upon a real gem. The menu is standard barbecue and Southern/Cajun fare. Talk about the best of both worlds. If the blackened catfish is any indication of how they do Cajun then I got Paradise in my backyard. This was absolutely the best blackened catfish in Las Vegas and I would put it up against 'Hush Puppies,' or 'Lola's' phony Cajun any day of the week.

The blackening seasoning, a family recipe bestowed upon Paul by his grandmother, was balanced just right and savory to a mouth-watering degree. The catfish was perfectly cooked and moist. Just as tender as could be, and you will not want to stop eating it. The BBQ was everything it could be and has all the earmarks of a master's hand. You can choose between different combos and platters with all the main players to choose from as side dishes. I had pulled pork and brisket, with cole slaw and macaroni salad. I could go on all day about the BBQ's tenderness and perfect amount of smoke, but if you know good BBQ then you know what I'm talking about. Big Paul's is good BBQ. World stocks drop as US economic data disappoints

BANGKOK (AP) ? World stock markets fell Thursday as signs of weakness in the world's two biggest economies kept investors at bay.

Benchmark oil lingered near $105 a barrel. The dollar fell against the euro and the yen.

Caution in markets stemmed from U.S. Commerce Department data that showed orders for durable goods rose 2.2 percent in February. While that compared favorably to a steep drop in January, analysts had expected orders to increase 2.7 percent.

"U.S. data shows weakness in the economic recovery. That really confirms what the Fed Chairman, Bernanke, said last week that the Federal Reserve has to continue loose monetary policy in order to aid economic recovery and employment," said Francis Lun, managing director of Lyncean Holdings in Hong Kong.

Investors are also concerned that China's slowdown is accelerating. China is a huge importer of raw materials, so a slowing economy there can weigh on prices for raw materials.

European stocks were muted in early trading. Britain's FTSE 100 was 0.4 percent lower at 5,787.75. Germany's DAX lost 0.4 percent to 6,971.46 and France's CAC-40 slipped 0.1 percent to 3,425.29.

Wall Street futures headed lower as traders awaited weekly jobless claims later in the day. Dow Jones industrial futures fell slightly to 13,049 while S&P 500 futures lost less than 0.1 percent to 1,399.50.

Japan's Nikkei 225 index retreated for a second day after reaching a one-year high, falling 0.7 percent to 10,114.79.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng tumbled 1.3 percent to 20,609.39 and South Korea's Kospi dropped 0.9 percent to 2,014.41. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 dipped 0.1 percent to 4,337.90.

The prospect of slowing growth from the world's two biggest economies pummeled industrial, energy and materials stocks.

Hong Kong-listed Aluminum Corp. of China shed 1.3 percent. CNOOC Ltd., China's main offshore oil and gas producer, tumbled 3.3 percent despite reporting that its 2011 profit rose 29.1 percent on higher oil and gas sales. Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., South Korea's leading shipbuilder, fell 3 percent.

Leighton Holdings plummeted 6.7 percent in Sydney after the Australian construction company cut its full year profit forecast because of losses in several major infrastructure projects.

Mainland Chinese shares spiraled downward amid dwindling hopes for a looser monetary policy, analysts said.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 1.4 percent to 2,252.16 and the Shenzhen Composite Index lost 1.6 percent to 895.07. Shares in nonferrous metals, engineering and materials weakened.

Analysts said investors are also holding back as they await news later this week on Europe's progress in resolving its debt crisis.

Benchmark crude oil was up 1 cent to $105.42 per barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract fell $1.92 to end at $105.41 per barrel on the Nymex on Wednesday. Oil prices declined after France's government said it is considering a release of emergency stockpiles as part of a U.S.-led effort to ease the recent climb in prices.

In currencies, the euro rose to $1.3326 from $1.3324 late Wednesday in New York. The dollar fell to 82.41 yen from 82.79 yen.
