Quote Roundup: Southeast Iowa Voters Have Strong Opinions on 2012 Election (ContributorNetwork)

Sitting at a year out from the 2012 presidential election, opinions of who should win are split along party lines. Comments range from Republican promises for tax cuts and deregulation to a do-nothing Congress and broken promises from President Barack Obama. Voters won't decide until Nov. 6, 2012, but lines are already being drawn in the sand for some southeast Iowa voters in Fairfield.

* "No one seems to be emerging as a strong contender. The only serious contender is Mitt Romney. Maybe Herman Cain would agree to be VP nominee. I think Barack Obama will be the president again because he'll run on his foreign policy successes and the small upturn in the economy and paint the Republican Party that they block all of the bills that will improve the economy and create jobs brush." -- Pam Ausman, retired, left-leaning independent, Fairfield

* "I would like to see Herman Cain and Marco Rubio as his running mate. I believe strongly that whoever the Republicans put as their candidate will beat President Obama. He simply cannot run on his record. It's a miserable failure. Do both parties share the blame for the mess we are in? Absolutely. But future generations need to know our Constitution stands for something. It makes me sad that Democrats say Republicans (the tea party) are mean and want nothing good for everyone." -- Linda Van Nostrand, part-time office worker/bookkeeper, Republican, Fairfield

* "I think Mitt Romney will win the Republican nomination because I think that he appeals more to the middle-class society. Rick Santorum will be his running mate. Mitt Romney will win the presidential election because he plans to market reforms that expand and deregulate private insurance companies to decrease the costs." -- Debbie McKee Moss, housewife, right-leaning independent, Fairfield

* "I think Cain will win the nomination because he seems to be more outgoing and I've heard Michele Bachmann's name out there for a running mate. I would go with Obama to win in 2012. He still has a lot to prove. He has all these good ideas. This guy needs a chance. It's hard to do everything in four years. He got what needed to be done and he got bin Laden." -- Rick McCarty, unemployed, Democrat, Fairfield

* "My choice would be Ron Paul. I haven't really thought about who a good running mate would be. I see daily the problems that too much government and regulations cause for everyday Americans. Paul wants to return all of the lost liberties and freedom back to where it belongs, with the people and not the government. Any Republican running against Obama will win because Obama hasn't been a very good president." -- Robert Van Nostrand, CPA, independent, Fairfield

* "I haven't decided right now, but I'd be happy with any of the major candidates. Any Republican would be preferable to what we've got now. Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain or Michele Bachmann would be a good running mate. I think any of the Republican nominees will win the election because the Democrats have dug themselves into such a bad hole that they don't have a chance of getting out of it." -- Neil Bullock, small-business owner, Republican, Fairfield

* "It's a toss-up between Perry and Romney. I would prefer Romney because he has a little bit of sense. I have no idea who the running mate might be. I think Obama will win the election and I think it will be a nail-biter. Obama's given too much stuff away and that's going to be hard to overcome." -- Dave Blair, retired, Democrat, Fairfield

* "Mitt Romney will probably win the nomination and I don't know about a running mate. I think President Obama will be re-elected. He's done a lot of good things, but the Republicans keep standing in the way. The Republicans are trying to bust the unions." -- Tom Vandel, blue collar factory worker, independent, Fairfield

* "Herman Cain will win. Mitt Romney will be his running mate and they will win the election against Obama because we need change and not Obama change. That's change I don't want to believe in." -- Josie Hannes, small-business owner, Republican, Fairfield
